Toddlers of Powertown officially saw their crèche’s doors open after months of waiting and excitement.
The residential area situated next to the N2 highway in the Kleinbrakriver area of Mossel Bay municipality, was the central point of attention on Wednesday, 16 May 2012, after the Executive Mayor of Eden, Councillor Wessie Van der Westhuizen, Alderlady Marie Fereirra, Executive Mayor of Mossel Bay, Eden’s Executive Mayoral Committee members, councillors from Mossel Bay and Oudtshoorn, Eden’s Executive Manager of Community Services, Mr Clive Africa, representatives from the Departments of Correctional Services, Social Services and Agriculture and various other role-players attended the opening ceremony to officially opened the doors of the crèche.
Executive Mayor of Eden, Councillor Wessie Van der Westhuizen and Ms Lena Williams, Deputy Chairperson of the Powertown Community Forum, officially open the doors of the Powertown crèche.

On Thursday, 10 May 2012, Eden Executive Mayor, Councillor Wessie van der Westhuizen and Speaker, Councillor Doris Nayler handed donations of R2000 to Principals of 10 High Schools in the region.
This initiative emanated from school visits at the beginning of the school year during which the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and their delegation handed over certificates of acknowledgement to schools in the district to congratulate them on their outstanding performance in the 2011 matric examinations.
The beneficiary Principals excited about the funds they received as well as the new relationship form with Eden District Municipality. During a brief speech, Councillor van der Westhuizen thanked Principals for attending the historic gathering. He explained that Eden Council needs to start with a new and fresh approach to better the lives of the communities. He further stated that by investing into education, much better and effective citizens with less social issues will be produce.
