LGMTEC visits Eden District Municipality PDF Print

Recently, the Local Government Technical Engagement Committee (LGMTEC), championed by Corporate Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) together with representatives of Provincial Treasury visited Eden District Municipality (Eden DM).  The primary objective of this session was to determine whether municipalities have complied with the relevant legislative requirements when compiling their Integrated Development Plans (IDPs) and Budgets.  In other words, was the IDP credible and the budget cash-backed. Senior Managers and Executive Managers of Departments of both Provincial Treasury and COGTA led the delegation.

Discussion points focused on the following areas:
•    IDPs; and
•    Budgets and the alignment between the Budget and IDP.

The following components of an IDP were also discussed:
•    Spatial Development Planning;
•    Environmental Management; and
•    Performance Management and all other components of the IDP as contained in Section 26 of the Municipal Systems Act.

Regarding the assessment outcome for Eden DM 2018/19 Draft IDP/Budget, the following was brief outcomes presented by Provincial Treasury.
•    Eden DM 2018/19 IDP is credible and compliant; and
•    Eden DM 2018/19 Budget is compliant and there is a strong alignment between the IDP and the Budget.
